Public (Virtual) Meeting Re: USACE CT River Hydrilla Research Project
- Date: 08/06/2025 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
- Location: Virtual Teams Meeting
Residents are advised of the following public notice issued by USACE regarding an upcoming public information meeting:
Interested parties and stakeholders are hereby notified that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New England District, in partnership with the Lower Connecticut (CT) River Valley Council of Governments (RiverCOG), the CT Agricultural Experiment Station Office of Aquatic Invasive Species (CAES-OAIS), and Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation (MA DCR), is conducting a research and demonstration project to better understand and control the invasive aquatic plant northern hydrilla (hydrilla verticillata) currently spreading throughout the lower Connecticut River and its tributaries.
A public stakeholder meeting will be held to notify interested parties and stakeholders about the USACE demonstration project, to give more details about the research that is being conducted, and to address questions or concerns members of the public may have about the project. One of the goals of the demonstration project is to assist the local communities in their planning and control efforts to reduce current populations of hydrilla, and to contain further spread outside of its current known locations.
This meeting will be a virtual Teams meeting hosted by USACE concerning hydrilla in the state of Connecticut. USACE will present the details and initial results of the CT River Research & Demonstration project, followed by a question & answer period.
Representatives from the following organizations will be available to answer questions:
• USACE - New England District
• USACE – US Army Engineer Research & Development Center (ERDC)
• US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA)
• CT Agricultural Experiment Station – (CAES OAIS)
Meeting Details:
August 6, 2025
6 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a question & answer period ending at 7:30pm
