Town of Glastonbury Warns Residents of Scam Targeting Permit Applicants

Post Date:07/22/2025 2:52 PM

The Town of Glastonbury has learned of a new scam whereby criminals send fake invoices to applicants who are in the process of obtaining permits and licenses for building, zoning, and similar activities. Such fraudulent invoices are sent by U.S. mail and are designed to mimic those generated through the OpenGov permitting system.  According to a press release issued by the Town of East Hartford, “These fraudulent invoices claim to be from the Town and request payment to move applications forward.”  Furthermore, the scam artists are using publicly available information to make their communications appear legitimate – such as Town staff members, applicant addresses, etc.

Citizens are advised that the Town of Glastonbury does NOT send hard copy invoices by mail, nor do we offer fees to expedite permits.

As of this writing, the Town is not aware of any fraudulent invoices received by Glastonbury residents.  However, all permit applicants should be mindful of this scam.

If you receive a suspicious invoice by mail, you may contact the Glastonbury Police Department at (860) 633-8301. Questions regarding permit payments can be directed to the Glastonbury Building & Zoning Department at (860) 652-7521.

Please share this update with your colleagues and neighbors and keep an eye out for suspicious mailings.
