Reminder from the Assessor’s Office Re: Upcoming Deadlines
Exemption and assessment program applications/filings due
The Glastonbury Assessor’s Office reminds residents of the approaching deadlines for several exemption and assessment programs. Please review the list below, which summarizes each program and its respective application/filing deadline.
Program details, including applications and eligibility criteria, can be found on the Town website at www.glastonburyct.gov/taxrelief and at the Assessor’s Office, located on the lower level of Town Hall (2155 Main Street).

Upcoming Application/Filing Deadlines for Exemption/Assessment Programs
September 30
- Veterans discharge certificate (DD-214) filing – Due to the Glastonbury Town Clerk to receive the basic Veterans exemption, which reduces the taxable assessed value of property owned by a Veteran by $1,500.
October 1
- Additional Veterans Exemption Application - Additional Exemption for income-qualified Veterans.
- Gold Star Parents & Spouses Exemption Application - Reduces taxable assessed value of property by $20,000 for income-qualified parent or surviving spouse of a person who was killed in action.
- Totally Disabled Tax Exemption Application - Reduces taxable assessed value of property by $1,000 for persons eligible to receive permanent total disability benefits under Social Security.
- Certificate of Legal Blindness - Reduces taxable assessed value of property by $3,000 for legally blind persons.

Application to the Assessor for….
- Classification Of Land as FARMLAND - Classification under Public Act 490 allows farmland to be assessed at its use value.
- Classification of Land as FOREST LAND - Classification under Public Act 490 allows forest land to be assessed at its use value.
November 1
- Application For Exemption of Certain Farm Buildings - Exemption for buildings used exclusively in farming.
- Application For Property Tax Exemption for Certain Motor Vehicles - Exemption of a motor vehicle owned by a person with disabilities which is equipped for purposes of adapting its use to the disability of such person.
- Property Tax Exemption Application For A New Commercial Truck - Property tax exemption for certain commercial trucks, truck tractors, tractors and semi-trailers.
- Tax Exempt Organizations Application - Exemption for property used for scientific, educational, literary, historical, charitable or open space land preservation purposes.
- Declaration of Personal Property - Required filing for all owners of business personal property.
- Manufacturing Machinery and Equipment Exemption Claim (to be filed with Declaration of Personal Property) - Exemption for manufacturing machinery and equipment claimed on a federal income tax return as five-year property or seven-year property.
- Application to the Assessor for Exemption of Farm Machinery (to be filed with Declaration of Personal Property) - Exemption for farm machinery that is used exclusively in farming.
