The Town of Glastonbury is pleased to support the Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) as it continues its annual effort to remove invasive water chestnut plants from Keeney Cove and the Connecticut River.

Water chestnut is a highly invasive aquatic plant that can quickly cover waterways, restricting recreation, harming wildlife habitat, and disrupting the health of local ecosystems. Each summer, CRC staff and volunteers work together by kayak to remove these plants before they spread further.

Community members are invited to participate in upcoming volunteer cleanup events. CRC provides lightweight folding kayaks for volunteers, or participants may bring their own.

In addition to water chestnut, Connecticut is also seeing the spread of hydrilla, another aggressive aquatic invasive species that can be transported between waterways on boats and trailers. Boaters are reminded to help protect local waters by following the "Clean, Drain, Dry" guidelines before leaving any boat launch.
