Need to Beat the Heat? Air-Conditioned Facilities and Heat Relief Options Available

A stretch of hot and humid weather is expected this week. Residents are encouraged to take appropriate precautions, including staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, checking on family members and neighbors, and never leaving children or pets in a parked vehicle. 

For those seeking relief from the heat, the following air-conditioned Town facilities will be available:

Welles-Turner Memorial Library (2407 Main Street)
• Wednesday: 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
• Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Riverfront Community Center (300 Welles Street)
The Riverfront Community Center will be open as an air-conditioned public space and offers seating, television access, Wi-Fi, charging stations, and restroom facilities.

• Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
• Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The Academy Building (2143 Main Street): Please enter through the Parks and Recreation entrance (Door C)
• Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Town swimming pools are also open for the season and provide another option for residents looking to cool off during periods of extreme heat. Pool locations, schedules, and admission information are available at www.glastonburyct.gov/aquatics.

Residents seeking additional heat relief resources and air-conditioned locations throughout the state can call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org.
