Overview

The Community Development Department provides town planning, environmental planning, and development review for residential, commercial, industrial, and governmental projects. In coordination with the Engineering Department, Community Development oversees permitting related to the built and natural environment. 

Our mission is to provide high quality, efficient, and comprehensive services through technology, communications, and professionalism to ensure continuing enhancement of the quality of life. Organizationally, the Community Development Department provides oversight and permit coordination to the Building Inspection/Zoning Enforcement, Fire Marshal, Health, and Planning & Land Use divisions.

The Department also provides management and support services to the following boards/commissions:

• Agricultural Advisory Committee
• Architectural Site & Design Review Committee (ASDRC)
• Conservation Commission/Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency
• Economic Development Commission
• Great Pond Preserve Stewardship Committee
• Historic District Commission
• Town Plan and Zoning Commission (and Municipal Aquifer Protection Agency)
