Notary services are available in the Town Hall Customer Service Center on a first come, first served basis for individuals ages 18+. Please note, Town staff cannot notarize any of the documents noted in the list below.
Location: Customer Service Center, Town Hall (2155 Main St.)
Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM; 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Fee: $5.00 per Notary signature. Please bring exact change.
Notary services are also available at the Welles-Turner Memorial Library BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. You can reach the Library at (860) 652-7719, or visit their website for operating hours.
How to Prepare
The individual who requires the notarization and is signing the document must appear in person before the Notary. Two (2) signed forms of identification must be presented to have a document notarized:
- Photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.) - Current/valid only. Does NOT have an Expired Date.
- Credit card or bank card that meets the following criteria:
- Signed by owner (prior to presenting to notary)
- Does NOT have an Expired Date
- Name imprinted on card must match the name on the photo ID
The individual should also bring the CASH ONLY fee of $5.00 per notary signature. Please bring exact change.
Community members can also access Notary Public services at banks, mailing services, and select legal and accounting offices.
Documents the Town CANNOT Notarize
Town notaries can only notarize documents for adults age 18+.
Furthermore, notaries available through Town offices CANNOT notarize the following:
- Wills, I-9 documents, or "end of life' documents (e.g., living will or healthcare agent)
- Documents related to citizenry and/or immigration status
- Vital records
- Documents written in a foreign language
- Staff notaries are NOT able to witness statements attesting to an individual's competency.
- The Notaries at the WTML cannot notarize real estate documents
- Documents for individuals under the age of 18
Authentication
Occasionally, the Town Clerk’s office is called upon to authenticate the signature of a Notary. This authentication service is provided for a $5.00 fee. This service can be performed only if the Notary's current signature is on file in the Town Clerk's Office.
