Our Mission

The mission of the Facilities Maintenance Department is to provide comprehensive operations and maintenance management of all municipal buildings and facilities to ensure cost effective operations, high quality customer service, and exceptional working environment. Manage all capital building construction projects for the Town and the Board of Education. The Academy Complex, previously accounted for separately, is now part of the Facilities Maintenance budget. Activities in the Academy Complex include Town facilities, Information Technology, and the Recreation Department, including several Parks & Recreation sponsored programs and activities.

Services

All public building projects are managed by the Department and staff support is provided to the Public Buildings Commission. The Public Buildings Commission acts at the direction of the Town Council in matters pertaining to the acquisition, construction, and/or modification of public buildings and land directly associated therewith by the Town and shall perform such other duties as may be assigned periodically by the Town Council.

  • Manage all utilities, communications services, and accounts valued at over $1,500,000 for all Town Departments annually.
  • Perform in-house maintenance, repair, custodial services, and improvements for over 323,000 sq. ft. of facilities.
  • Manage over 39 facilities services and on-call professional services
  • Manage an average of $5 million of construction annually
  • Oversee capital building projects for the Town and Glastonbury Public Schools
  • Provide staff support to the Public Buildings Commission
  • Prepare Town-owned properties for rental

Accomplishments and Capital Projects:

  • Achieved $562,577 in rebates from utilities since 2009
  • Received two State of Connecticut Public, Educational and Governmental Programming and Education Technology Investment Account (PEGPETIA) to upgrade the Towns video production system which broadcasts on the access channel
  • Supported sustainable CT program including Climate Leader Designation
  • Power Purchase Agreement for Renewable Energy Certificate projects, and roofing for the Board of Education
  • Received Zero Renewable Energy Certificates (ZREC) approvals for 800 kW of projects at Hopewell, Buttonball and Naubuc Schools, as well as the Town Hall and Police facilities
  • Finished renovations on Youth & Family Services building.
  • Projects Currently Underway:
    • Animal Control Shelter & Williams Memorial Building upgrades - currently in design process.
    • Code improvements at Fire Companies 3 & 4
    • Ongoing LED retrofits throughout the Town.
    • Naubuc School open space classroom study and updates at Gideon Welles School
    • HVAC replacements at the following: Buttonball School Cafeteria, Glastonbury High School Gymnasium, Hebron Avenue School Cafeteria, Hopewell School Cafeteria and Naubuc School, 
    • Adding addtional Electric Vehicle Charging stations at the Riverfront Community Center, JB Williams Park, Town Hall and the Welles-Turner Memorial Library.
    • In process of replacing roofs at Gideon Welles School and 50 Nye Road.
