Evictions/Ejectments

Social Services assists residents facing eviction/ejectments by providing information regarding tenant/landlord rights, the eviction/ejectment process, and assistance programs available.

In the event an eviction/ejectment is imminent, Social Services is notified by the State Marshal and will make every effort to contact the resident to assist with the process.  If the resident is unable to remove their belongings from the property, the Town (Social Services) must take possession of the items and store them for 15 days.  Please see CGS Sec. 47a-42 of the Connecticut General Statute for detailed information.

Statewide Legal Services may be able to offer legal advice/assistance in eviction/ejectment matters. Please visit www.slsct.org for more information.

Additionally, the clerk in the Hartford Housing Sessions division may be able to answer general questions regarding evictions/ejectments.  Please visit their website for more information at https://jud.ct.gov/directory/directory/housing.htm#Court

Shelters/Homelessness

In the state of Connecticut, access to shelters and homeless services are facilitated through the Coordinated Access Networks (CAN). CAN is comprised of community providers across the state who work together to streamline and standardize the process for individuals and families to access assistance.

To begin this process, persons experiencing homelessness, or those who are at imminent risk of homelessness, must call
2-1-1 (www.211ct.org) and dial #3 and #1 to speak to a contact specialist trained to assess housing needs.

  • Dial 2-1-1 from anywhere in Connecticut. If you are hearing impaired, use the TTY number: 1-800-671-0737.
  • If you are outside of Connecticut or have difficulties using the 2-1-1 number, dial 1-800-203-1234.

Additional resources are available for anyone under the age of 18 and is homeless or nearing homelessness.
