The CT Department of Transportation (CTDOT) issued the following announcement regarding upcoming construction work in Glastonbury.

CT DOT to Perform Bridge Work on Route 17 and the New London Turnpike in Glastonbury:
Project 0053-0189

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that bridge work will be completed on Route 17 and the New London Turnpike in Glastonbury. This project began on August 25, 2025 and is slated to be completed by October 15, 2027.  

CTDOT Project No. 0053-0189 was awarded to Richards Corporation. Inc. at a cost of $14,533,419.00 on July 8, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed October 15, 2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill, CT.

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO

There will be lane closures on Route 17 southbound as well as the exit ramps to New London Turnpike from Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Traffic control signing patterns and State Troopers will guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

Project Updates

12/02/2025 - CT DOT Update

The work completed to date includes contractor mobilization, construction of laydown areas and installation of the project office trailer. Spraying to remove invasive vegetation has been ongoing throughout the project site. The contractor has begun concrete repairs to Bridge 00870 over New London Turnpike, are wrapping up with the forms being removed and the concrete surfaces finished. The temporary sidewalk on the north side of New London Turnpike has been installed. Cox, Frontier and Eversource have been working to relocate their utilities. This utility relocation work included trenching along New London Turnpike for the installation of conduit to be used by Cox, Frontier, Eversource and Glastonbury has been completed. Frontier has installed new wooden utility poles as needed along New London Turnpike and pulled their fiber optic cables. We expect Cox, Eversource and Glastonbury owned utilities to be relocated to these new conduits in the next few weeks.

Over the next few weeks or so you should expect to see drainage structures being installed for the proposed roundabout, modifications to On Ramp 003 and final construction of the temporary access road. The traffic impact for this work will include trucks entering and exiting New London Turnpike and Traffic Control as needed.
